Founded in 1998, 1a Space is one of the city's leading contemporary visual art organizations. An independent, non-profit venture established by a group of local artists, it encourages interaction between the art community and the public through frequent exhibitions, seminars, festivals and cultural-exchange programs. Occupying 5,000 square feet and with a 30-foot ceilings, Artist Commune is a massive visual arts exhibition center. The two galleries feature exhibitions of installations and conceptual art, contemporary Chinese ink paintings and sculptures. Every July artworks by students at tertiary institutions exhibit here.
