Animals Asia Foundation

This animal-rights organization works with governments and local populations to help abused animals. Its best-known project is probably China Bear Rescue, which receives world-wide media attention for its efforts to rescue moon bears from mainland bile farms. Local program Dr Dog brings 300 animal therapy dogs into Hong Kong hospitals and schools (some children find it easier to read to a dog than an adult). Friends Or Food works to end the eating of dogs and cats in China, while Professor Paws educates the young on the values of caring for and respecting animals. Project Asia addresses regional issues, such as live wild animal markets and the use of animals in traditional medicine. Volunteers and donations always welcome.
