Tai Long Wan
This is basically Stage 2 of the MacLehose Trail in reverse. Pass by the abandoned village of Chek Keng near Long Harbour, then follow the MacLehose Trail inland, or take the coastal path marked Youth Hostel. Either way, you eventually reach Tai Long village. Stay on the concrete path to Ham Tin Wan, not the eroded path to Sai Wan. You will pass two beach cafes, and cross a wooden bridge to the sweeping surf beaches and unspoilt headlands of Tai Long Wan. There are three beaches to choose from and the water is among the cleanest in Hong Kong. Continue on through Sai Wan village and climb up to a dip between hills. The MacLehose Trail turns off to Long Ke, but you should follow the concrete path towards Pak Tam Chung. Catch a cab or a minibus to Sai Kung at the shelter at the end of the footpath, or slog on to the Country Park entrance.
