Hiking Trails The starting point for Stage 10 of the MacLehose Trail, this is a traditional route from Yuen Long to Tsuen Wan, dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Before the construction of Castle Peak Road, it was the only way for villagers to reach the market towns. For modern hikers, it offers spectacular views of the Tsing Ma and Ting Kau bridges, and the rapidly expanding urban areas in the northwest New Territories and northern Lantau. Although not too difficult, the 10km hike takes about three hours. Reward yourself with the famous roast goose in Sham Tseng. Fu Kee Restaurant (60 Sham Tseng Tsuen, 2491-9832) comes highly recommended.

Getting there: From Tsuen Wan MTR, take a red taxi to the end of On Yat Street, near Allways Gardens, where you'll find a concrete path and steps to the the trail. Follow the signs for Tin Fu Tsai, then Tsing Lung Tau and finally Sham Tseng.
